Projects

A 5-year hosting arrangement with the Government of Germany provides the GWOPA Secretariat with stable core revenue to implement its strategy. Support from German BMZ contributes to the staff and operational costs of GWOPA’s work, including advocacy and communications, hosting of global events, WOP monitoring and research activities, and the development of guidance materials and tools for effective Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs). Hosting funds permit GWOPA to work globally and to collaborate with regional organizations in order to extend the reach of its work.

In addition to the foundational support from the Government of Germany, GWOPA leads a number of projects which also contribute to Strategy Implementation. Projects are carried out with funding from specific donors and tend to have a specific geographical or thematic focus.

BEWOP – Since 2013, GWOPA has been collaborating with IHE-Delft on the Boosting Effectiveness in WOPs (BEWOP) Project to offer knowledge, guidance and practical tools that make it easier for utilities to lead successful WOPs

WaterWorX – Through Water Operator Partnerships (WOPs) between Dutch and local water companies, WaterWorX is working on long term sustainable water services by improving the utilities’ capacity building and performance.

EU WOP Programme – The EU-WOP programme, funded by the European Union and managed by GWOPA at UN-Habitat and scheduled to run from 2020 to 2024

CWIS (Citywide Inclusive Sanitation) – Enhancing CWIS global learning and knowledge management and sanitation focused Water Operators’ Partnerships (SWOPs)

OFID SIP WOP Programme – Utilities in Asia and Africa improve their sustainability through WOPs in collaboration with OFID

MENA Region – Abu Dhabi Department of Energy supports GWOPA’s Secretariat in Regional Mapping Initiative in the MENA region, that includes a regional action plan of capacity building for utilities presented at WUF10.
