Lekhnath-GWOPA Small Scale Agreement of Cooperation, Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management (DWSSM), Ministry of Water Supply Nepal, UNICEF Nepal, WHO Nepal, EU WOP Godawari-WaterAid

Main points (GWOPA-UN Habitat recommended) that we have considered when designing sessions include:

  • Relating content to the work of water and sanitation operators, WOPs, peer-to-peer learning, and the work towards achievement of SDG6 and the New Urban Agenda.
  • Aligning with the theme of the congress “Resilience in challenging times: Mobilizing collaboration for future-ready water and sanitation service providers”.
  • Ensuring speaker selection considers regional balance, gender diversity, and young professionals.
  • Innovative session designs and approaches. Session Theme: Digitalization – innovations for utilities and WOPs

Key Objectives:

➢ Knowledge sharing of previous WOPs

➢ Understanding, analysing, and sharing the Constraints- Challenges and Opportunities of New WOPs

➢ Based on previous learning on WOPs, integration with MIS for KPI based improvement

Background:

Every service provider’s performance can be measured in terms of two components: the outputs and the process they follow. The process optimizations are closely associated with operation and management efficiency, and hence the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) associated with operation and management efficiency support the efficient outputs. For example, SDG 6.1 as an output also needs process improvements such as asset management, NRW, accounting, mean time to repair, etc. WOPs can contribute to process optimization, and this session aims to discuss how Nepal is linking WOPs with KPI improvements, with the goal of realizing positive impacts on the water utility at a larger scale. However, while Nepal has some previous experiences with WOPs, the impacts on KPIs were not systematically assessed at a national level, which may have limited the program’s scalability and impact. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation of WOPs to ensure that the benefits of process optimization are realized at a larger scale.
