World Water Week (26-31 August) is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues.

The High-Level Political Forum

The annual High-level Political Forum (HLPF) is the United Nations central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. The platform draws on the participation of all member states of the United Nations, major groups and relevant stakeholders.

The theme of the 2018 High-level Political Forum on sustainable development will be "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies.” Held from the 9 to 18 July in New York, this year’s Forum will focus on the review of SDGs 6, 7, 11, 12, 15 and 17. Through the Global Water Operators Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), UN-Habitat will showcase the Water Operators’ Partnerships approach in two events taking place in the margins of the HLPF.

Briefing Session on ‘The role of water utilities in the implementation of SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation’       12 July 2018

Hosted by the Permanent Mission of Spain and the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations, this session aims at briefing Member States and their representatives to the United Nations in New York on the role of water utilities in the implementation of SDG 6 and on the different aspects of urban water management.

The session will also address the complexities of delivering safe, affordable, accessible and sufficient water and sanitation services when facing up to the widening scope of global challenges. By presenting concrete examples of not-for-profit peer support partnerships, the session will explore how WOPs can catalyze the achievement of the SDGs.

Partnership Exchange 13 July 2018

The Partnership Exchange is United Nations' annual global gathering for reviewing multi-stakeholder partnerships and voluntary commitments in supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and to explore, and build momentum towards, the creation of the partnering enabling environment.

GWOPA will contribute to the Expert Parallel Session 2 – ‘Maximizing impact of partnerships at the national level’, by providing insight on ‘building an effective monitoring framework system for partnerships’. This session will look at the current approach to monitoring to discuss what is working well, what is less effective and make recommendations for a future approach.

Follow the discussions and outcomes of both sessions on social media.
