GWOPA at the first session of the UN-Habitat Assembly Featured

From 27th to 31st May, UN-Habitat will hold the first session of the UN-Habitat Assembly at the headquarters of UN-Habitat in Nairobi.

The Assembly replaces the biannual Governing Council and it will attract over 2,000 participants to discuss the main theme “Innovation for Better Quality of Life in Cities and Communities”. During this first session, the Assembly is expected to establish the Executive Board of UN-Habitat and elect its members, to review and approve the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan 2020-2025 and to also review the progress of the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, among other matters.

Member States of the United Nations are expected to participate in the deliberations of the UN-Habitat Assembly. In addition, a state which is a member of a specialized agency, and observer Members States of the United Nations may participate in the deliberations of the UN-Habitat Assembly in the capacity of an observer.

The Assembly will also be attended by United Nations Agencies, Local authorities and non-state actors including civil society, youth and women group representatives, the private sector and the Academia.

GWOPA is holding some meetings with key partners during the Assembly and will run the event: Water Operators Partnerships: Accelerating the uptake of water and sanitation innovations for the SDGs. The event will take place at the City Stage, UNON on Wednesday, 29th May from 14:15 to 15:00.
