Celebrating World Cities Day in Barcelona

Event Event GWOPA

On Thursday 30 October 2014, UN Habitat together with our hosts from the City Council of Barcelona, the Sant Pau Foundation and a wide range of local development actors, gathered to celebrate World Cities Day.

This was a major event of Urban October, which was celebrated under the theme, “Leading Urban Transformations”, aiming to highlight the challenges, successes and progress of local governments in addressing sustainable urbanization.

WCD Barcelona was foremost an opportunity to showcase the City Resilience Profiling Programme and the Global Water Operators’ Partnership Alliance to local development actors, NGOs, local governments, and academics with view to identify potential synergies. Participants heard from UN Habitat’s partners on how they are engaging with the Agency at local and global level.

The celebration moreover marked the official inauguration of UN Habitat’s City Resilience Profiling Programme offices in the historic Sant Leopold Pavilion of the Sant Pau Art Nouveau site.
