Following an open call launched in June 2016 for mentors to support Angolan water utilities through Water Operators’ Partnerships, a large number of proposals were received by UNICEF Angola and GWOPA. These were transmitted to the Government of Angola that selected two successful proposals:
- The consortium of Fundo de Investimento e Património de Abastecimento de Água (FIPAG Mozambique) and Vitens Evides International (The Netherlands) will support Empresa Pública de Águas de Cuenene
- Aguas de Portugal - AdP Internacional (Portugal) will support Empresa Pública de Águas de Cabinda
As per the call for proposals for mentors, the WOPs will aim to conduct a diagnosis and set priority areas of improvement for the two Angola operators, and select which of these areas should be implemented in the short term and included in the first stage of a Performance Improvement Plan.
The costs associated with the WOPs will be covered by UNICEF Angola and it is expected that the partnerships will run for a period of 1 year.
