This 8th meeting of the International Steering Committee (28-29 Jan 2016) was the first to include organizations newly elected at the 2015 General Assembly. Taking place in the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site in Barcelona, the agenda was structed around past, present and future activities within the Alliance: reporting on 2015; reflecting on the state of the Alliance as part of the mid-term review; and planning activities for 2016.
Reporting by regional platforms, alliance members and the Secretariat highlighted the centralitiy of the Congress in work conducted over 2015. Discussion also covered updates on ongoing WOPs in the regions, news of the proposed creation of a task force to address the Sustainable Development Goal on water and sanitation, and the challenges faced within the Alliance, among others.
Steering Committee members were then presented with an overview of the mid-term review being conducted in line with GWOPA's 5-year Strategy and invited to comment on this process. The day concluded with a presentation by a Standard-setting organization, ISEAL, on the potential of branding and standard-setting for WOPs.
The second day focussed on joint and WOPs-related activities planned for 2016 and began with a presentation of the Secretariat's workplan for 2016 and those of the regional platforms. The meeting was concluded with a wrap-up of issues addressed and tasks defined for the Secretariat to follow up. A full report will be circulated to members in the coming weeks.
In light of the changes in the composition of the Steering Committee, two seats were available on the Integrity Sub-Committee. Members from eligible categories were requested to select organization from within the category. Three new organizations were elected following the ISC composition: Rand Water (Public Operator), PERPAMSI (Public Operator) and Aquafed (Private Operator).
