WOP-LAC General Assembly elects new members to Steering Committee

The regional WOP platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (WOP-LAC) held its General Assembly and Steering Committee meeting in Panama on 25 May.

The meetings took place during the 6th Meeting of the Association of Latin American Water Operators (ALOAS) where both WOP-LAC and GWOPA shared a presentation to inform the participants about the on-going WOPs and activities in the region. The General Assembly of WOP-LAC elected four new members for the Steering Committee and replaced the seat of COPASA (Brazil) who left the Steering Committee and its Presidency. The new configuration of WOP-LAC Steering Committee is as follows:

- OSE (Uruguay) - Presidency
- AySA (Argentina)
- CORAAVEGA (Dominican Republic)
- EPM (Colombia)
- AyA  (Costa Rica)
- ETAPA (Ecuador)
- Aguas de Choloma (Honduras)
- ANDA (El Salvador) (for a period of two years to complete the mandate left by COPASA)

The 6th ALOAS meeting was held in Panama for the first time after 5 consecutive years being hosted by AySA in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This was a very participatory meeting during which the operators discussed about the future of ALOAS and its relevance for the LAC region. Among the issues that were addressed during the presentations and discussions was the upcoming 8th World Water Forum in 2018 in Brasilia and the need for a higher visibility of urban water operators in this forum. A Strategic Plan will be developed for the association and a new committee structure will be proposed for November 2017.
