Positive reflection on WOPs during EU’s evaluation of the ACP Water Facility

Participants validated findings from the 9th and 10th European Development Fund Water Facility during two-day meeting in Nairobi.

  • Description Resume: The facility was set up in 2004, with the principal objective of providing water and basic sanitation to the poor, and to improve water management governance in African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.

GWOPA participated in the meeting (16th - 17th of June 2016) to validate the findings that covered the EU’s Africa, Caribbean and Pacific fund under the Water Facility, with specific focus on East Africa. In total, the fund allocated over 700 million Euros between 2004 and 2013 and the 2-days workshop organized in Nairobi served to present the main findings and recommendations by the evaluation team.

On this basis, extensive discussions were led by the many organizations engaged in the implementation of the funded projects. During the discussions, WOPs were highlighted as a highly cost-effective approach to strengthening the capacity of water operators to provide access to safe water services.
