“Leave no one behind” has become a rallying cry for inclusiveness and solidarity in an increasingly inequitable world. The Sustainable Development Goals use this slogan at least seven times, as a reminder that only together will development be sustainable.

Sanitation and Water utilities around the world are grappling with many of the same challenges, although some are faring better than others. There is not only a need, but a huge opportunity for operators to share their knowledge and solutions with one another for the benefit of the billions of people worldwide that these essential local institutions are meant to serve.

Water Operators Partnerships (WOPs) are not-for-profit peer support partnerships for water and sanitation utilities. They support public operators to make significant and lasting managerial, financial and operational improvements so that they can deliver quality services to all, sustainably.

The Global WOPs Congresses, held every two years in Barcelona, are gatherings of the growing global community of WOPs practitioners and supporters. The Congress is an opportunity for operators and those government, financial, academic, NGO, worker and others working with them to come together, share ideas, elaborate their knowledge, and develop solidarity-based collaboration.

For the the 4th Global WOPs Congress “Leave No Operator Behind,” the aim is to bring more operators than ever to engage in this global forum of exchange so that no one is left behind.

Are you an operator that could use support? Can you support others? Would you like to support WOPs in other ways, with your research, networks, or funds? We want to see you there!

Previous Congresses

Previous congresses have provided an opportunity to report on trends and tendencies in WOPs practice as well as wider discussions on the role and importance of capacity development of operators to work towards global goals on water and sanitation. Composed of plenary, regional, thematic and parallel session, the congress provides space for Alliance members and partners to share their work and seek synergies.

The Congress is growing and continues to attract new actors. The 3rd Global WOPs Congress (September 16-18th, 2015) gathered over 400 participants.
